Lent, Day 31 – That’s Love!

A Thought for the Day from Marion Wilcox – ‘That’s Love!’

If we asked a hundred people, what is your favourite Bible verse? I imagine many would choose John 3:16:
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

We have seen this verse on posters, heard it in Sunday School, but in these challenging days – it is good to be reminded that God loves us; and that love is in abundance! But, do we know this love or are they just words on a poster? God wants us to have eternal life and as we face these challenging days that we know with certainty His love.

As we approach Good Friday and think of God’s love to us in that He sent His Son, Jesus, to pay the price for our sin – we see such love from our Heavenly Father. If you like to think of it, as Jesus being a substitute for you and for me – that’s love! John 15:13 speaks of this immense and deep love, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

Thinking of this deep and immense love, look at Ephesians 3:18, “to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.”

Let us ‘grasp’ and ask God to be filled with this love to overflowing, let us pray that He will touch us in such a deep way, take away fear and give us a deep sense of His love, peace and presence surrounding us this day. Some words we know from, ‘When I Survey The Wondrous Cross.’

“See, from His head, His hands, His feet
Sorrow and love flow mingled down
Did e’er such love and Sorrow meet
Or thorns compose so rich a crown.

Were the whole realm of nature mine
That were an offering far too small
Love so amazing, so divine
Demands my soul, my life, my all.”
